Biru’s forte lies in intellectual property management with broad industry experience in technology transfer, business development and corporate marketing.

She started her career in IP as a patent specialist with one of the leading IP firms in Malaysia, Patrick Mirandah & Co. She gained extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for the ICT and Telecommunication industries. As a follow on from these fields, she has also extended similar experience relating to semi-conductor, electronics and electro-mechanical.

Succeeding her career in patents, Biru joined British Telecoms as an Industry Partnership Executive where she specialised in technology transfer and commercialisation of BT’s R&D in the South East Asia region, developing strategic partnership channels for BT with the local government based agencies, universities and private organisations. In addition, she had the experience of extracting commercial benefits from R&D and identifying potential licensing opportunities for BT. Over the years in BT she was successful in managing an R&D grant which focuses on innovative R&D for BT’s Digital Home and 21CN technologies, established licensing opportunities with SMEs and conducted major tradeshows in peninsular Malaysia. She has evaluated and consulted over 200 SMEs in the ICT spectrum through BT’s Open Innovation Programme on innovation and IP management.

After her tenure in BT, Biru took on a role as a Commercial Director with a start-up company focusing on IP management, drafted numerous patent specifications and consulted companies on branding and marketing strategies. Biru expanded her career horizon in early 2013 by accepting a regional role as a Marketing Director with an ICT company, Inforient Sdn Bhd. She was responsible for the company’s marketing and IP strategy, MSC corporate affairs and also led the commercialisation grant initiatives.

Biru was appointed as a member judge of the International Panel of Judges for Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX), Malaysia in 2006, 2008 and 2009. She is also a member of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association (MIPA).

Biru has an MBA from Victoria University, Australia and a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from Coventry University, UK. She is also a Registered Patent Agent from the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO). Her passion is Open Innovation and she believes that with open innovation, we can become more innovative and design strategies that will enable us to increase our competitiveness in today’s globalised world.

Elina M. Isa
Intellectual Property Manager

Elina’s expertise lies in the area of Intellectual Property. While her forte is in patent protection, she has also gained experience in handling design and trademark applications.

Prior to joining PlaTCOM, over a span of 15 years, Elina was a Patent Specialist in three Intellectual Property boutiques in Kuala Lumpur, where she managed patent portfolios for a wide range of local and international notable clients; including Aventis Pharma, DuPont, Sanofi, MIMOS, and Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

Elina has gained extensive familiarity in strategic IP protection, patent drafting for various types of inventions as well as patent prosecution in Malaysia and international jurisdictions; including the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). In view of a more contentious side of IP, she has considerable experience in providing patent validity and freedom to operate opinions for local and international clients such as DuPont and Procter & Gamble.

Elina holds a degree in Biotechnology from Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Ezarina Ya’akub
IP Executive

At PlaTCOM, Ezarina contributes in the area of Intellectual Property; particularly in handling trademark and patent prosecution matters. She currently handles searches, registration and prosecution of trademarks and patents; for both local and international applications.

Ezarina has also been to various courses organised by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) pertaining to Intellectual Property matters. She keeps herself updated on any developments with regards to the current Intellectual Property landscape. Prior to joining PlaTCOM, she had joined two Intellectual Property boutiques in Kuala Lumpur where she handled trademark and patent matters. She has more than 7 years of experience in the area of Intellectual Property especially in trademark prosecution matters.

Ezarina received her Diploma in Art and Design and graduated from University Technology MARA, Malaysia.
