Vishnu graduated from University of Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Malaysia, with Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Prior to joining PlaTCOM, he has extensive working experience in reputable boutique Intellectual Property firms. He has about 10 years of working experience in the field of Intellectual Property.

He was responsible for drafting patents in the areas of telecommunications, electromagnetic, electric motors, computer implemented inventions, mechanical devices, semiconductors, and electronic devices.

At the same time, he was responsible for patent and industrial design prosecution, patent infringement analysis, patent searches and patent invalidation analysis, liaising with MyIPO, IP Australia, International Bureau and in jurisdictions such in Australia, UK, Europe, Japan and the United States of America, assisting with patent litigations, managing patent assignments, acquisitions, licensing, mergers of patent rights, provide consultation services to inventors and clients on patent protection for a wide range of local and international notable clients. He has also attended South East Asia Drafting (SEAD) course on Patent Drafting, organized by The International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI).

Ms. Nur Hazwah Mohd Amin

Nur Hazwah Binti Mohd Amin is a Senior IP Executive in PlaTCOM Ventures Sdn. Bhd. She holds a degree in Industrial Biotechnology from Universiti of Selangor (UNISEL) with 11 years of experience in handling IP matters especially in Patent for local and international clients. She has also gained experience in handling trademark and industrial design applications.

Prior to joining PlaTCOM, she had joined two Intellectual Property firms in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur as Patent Executive and Paralegal respectively where she managed patent portfolios from MIMOS, MARDI, Sime Darby, Telekom, LGM as well as local universities such as UM, UTM, UPM, UKM, UteM, UIA, UTP, UMP and UPSI. She is highly experienced in handling patent search and patent draft workshops for local universities and Agensi Nuklear Malaysia.

Hazwah has gained familiarity in strategic IP protection, patent drafting for various types of inventions as well as patent prosecution in Malaysia and international jurisdictions including Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Hazwah has attended and passed the South East Asian Drafting (SEAD) course in Hong Kong 2010, appointed as one of the IP Valuer for PlaTCOM, certified IP Practitioner conducted and sponsored by Government of Japan in Tokyo 2019 and she has passed the patent agent qualifying examination which she took in 2019.

Phang Sound Pien

Phang S.P. graduated from Tenaga Nasional University (UNITEN) with Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Hons.) in 2003. He worked as an engineer in a few local and world-renowned multinational companies, after which he furthered his study in Yuan-Ze University (YZU) of Taiwan, where he obtained Master of Science in Communications Engineering.

He returned to Malaysia upon completion of the Master’s degree and ventured into Intellectual Properties (IP) field in 2012. He served in several prominent Intellectual Property (IP) firms in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, where he worked with a few Malaysian and British patent attorneys and agents. In 2017, he joined PlaTCOM Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary of National Innovation Agency Malaysia or Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM), as a Senior Executive of Intellectual Property (IP) Services.

He is well-versed in Intellectual Property (IP) knowledge, more especially patent prosecution. His field of expertise include electrical, electronics, telecommunications, mechanical and software. He has a wide experience in conducting patent searches, drafting patent specifications, responding to office actions, performing freedom-to-operate analysis, and consulting clients on various Intellectual Properties (IP) matters. He passed the Malaysian Patent Agent Examination in 2020 which qualifies him as an Intellectual Property (IP) Agent.

Dhana graduated from Multimedia University, Melaka with a Bachelor of Law (Hons). Prior to working at PlaTCOM, she served as a Legal Assistant and last position as IP Associate at Thompson Associates. She has more than 9 years of working experience – diversified experience in legal, trademark and patent. Dhana’s areas of practice are end-to-end process of trademark which includes advising clients on the availability of trademark registrability, pre-filing issues & formalities, drafting trademark specifications, conduct trademark, copyright & industrial design searches, maintaining the clients’ trademark, industrial design and copyright portfolio and ensure adequate protection for the client.

She is also part of the advisory team to advise potential clients on various intellectual property issues. Dhana handles all the office actions, oppositions, objection and attending hearing and preparing skeletal submissions pertaining to the registration of Intellectual Property Rights as well as monitoring the files and meeting deadlines. In that role, her work naturally focuses around clients in the area of re-branding their mark, assisting both local and multinationals businesses in these sectors right up to the grant stage.

Dhana is well-versed in conducting IP audits for the Public Research Universities and delivered reports timely manner. She is also responsible for filing trademark, industrial and copyright applications responding to examination reports, coordinating with foreign associates and managing foreign filings and responding to office actions issued by foreign trademark offices.

As one of PlaTCOM’s IP trainers, Dhana has conducted multiple IP training programmes for a wide range of audiences from various industries. She regularly delivered seminars, 2-day training programmes, 1- day training programmes, lecturers, etc, in area of IP training to audiences such as university researchers, corporate clients, private R & D teams, bussiness associations, government departments.

Sherry Sokmum

Sherry’s expertise lies in Intellectual Property; primarily in trademark, and followed by industrial design, copyright, patent, trade secret and geographical indication. Sherry is well versed to provide trademark search report, drafting and filing for various types of trademarks. Sherry is also well versed in filing and prosecuting trademark applications in Malaysia and other foreign jurisdictions such as United States (USPTO), European (EPO), Indian Patent Office and many more. Sherry was also exposed to filing and prosecuting industrial design, copyright, patent applications in Malaysia and foreign countries.

Prior to joining PlaTCOM, Sherry was a Legal and IP Manager in UKM Technology Sdn Bhd (UKMTech) where she managed IP and commercialisation portfolios for the university. UKMTech is the Technology Transfer Company of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, entrusted to accelerate the commercialization of UKM's R&D and IP. It is also the Holding Company for UKM start-up companies.

Sherry has 14 years of law experience specifically in the area of laws, legal codes, regulation, corporate, commercial, intellectual property and relevant industry experience. A proven, experienced manager and effective team member; able to respond quickly and accurately to evolving laws and regulations. Thorough knowledge of commercial contracts, corporate agreements and matters. She is known to be a strong team player with excellent client facing and configuration skills. Sherry is a qualified registered trademark agent with MyIPO and a member of IP Community of Japan Institute for Promoting Invention and Innovation (JIII)

Wan Sher Leen

Sher Leen has been in the field of intellectual property for 11 years, mainly consulting and advising on intellectual property matters. Whilst she is capable of handling all forms of intellectual property, her main focus and expertise is on patent. She started her journey in intellectual property back in year 2009 with one of the boutique intellectual property consultancy firms conducting searches and drafting patent specifications for a year. Consultancy, advisory and intellectual property management started in year 2010 with another boutique intellectual property consultancy firm, where she stayed on for the next six years.

She attended the South East Asian Drafting (SEAD) Training Course organised by FICPI in year 2013 and is a certified patent drafter under FICPI. She also attended a number of patent conferences, namely Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) in Penang, Malaysia and Okinawa, Japan in year 2013 and 2014 respectively. Besides patent prosecutions in Malaysia, Sher Leen is also familiar with patent prosecutions in foreign countries in Asia, Europe and US.

Sher Leen joined PlaTCOM Ventures Sdn Bhd in year 2018, where she manages intellectual property portfolio, advises clients on strategy in maintaining and monetizing their intellectual property, and delivers intellectual property courses to different entities, including private companies and research institutes. Apart from intellectual property matters, Sher Leen is also a commercialization specialist, which she picked up the skill when she was with PlaTCOM Ventures Sdn Bhd. She assisted a number of companies in the application of the HIP2 programme and managed the companies through the process of the programme. At the same time, she consulted companies in terms of commercialization as well as delivered awareness programmes on commercialization.

With her expertise in both intellectual property and commercialization, Sher Leen wishes to be able to spread awareness and importance in both areas, and to educate and equip the innovation community with skills in both intellectual property and commercialization.

In general, Sher Leen graduated from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) with a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry in the year of 2008. Although her mother tongue is Mandarin but she is well-versed in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. Apart from these, she is also capable of speaking and reading Korean.

Kameel Kaur Bassi

Kameel graduated from INTI International University with a Bachelor of Biotechnology (Hons). Prior to working at PlaTCOM Ventures, she was a Senior Patent and Industrial Design Specialist at Mirandah Asia Sdn. Bhd.

She is equipped with over six years of progressive experience in the intellectual property field, focusing on patent and industrial design and possesses in depth knowledge of the Malaysian patent and industrial design law and regulations with the ability to implement patent and industrial design laws and procedures. Essentially, her works focuses on providing guidance to local and foreign innovators on intellectual property strategies to protect their innovations. Equipped with knowledge on the whole gamut of patent and industrial design prosecution, her areas of practice include advising clients on patentability of inventions, drafting of patent specifications, filing and prosecuting patent and industrial design applications as well as expanding clients’ intellectual property portfolio in foreign countries.

Apart from the above, she is also experienced in conducting market review and commercial viability of new inventions as well as conducting intellectual property audit to systematically review a company’s intellectual property assets and related risks and opportunities. Most recently, she has successfully passed the Malaysian Patent Agent Examination.

Aimi Athirah Binti Zainal Abidin

Aimi graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Aimi has recently passed the Patent Agent Examination set by the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office (MyIPO) in 2019 and is now a qualified Malaysia Patent Agent. Prior to joining PlaTCOM, she started her career at an intellectual property firm as an IP Associate.

Prior to joining PlaTCOM, she started off her career in one of the intellectual property boutique in Malaysia as an IP Associate. She has a total of 5 years working experience with particular focus on patent for local and international applications. She has also gained experience in handling industrial design applications.

She has acquired professional experiences in conducting novelty search, drafting patent specifications as well as prosecuting domestic and international patent applications in a wide variety of electronic, electrical, telecommunication, software and mechanical arts. With her vast experience & knowledge, she has assisted multiple local corporations as well local universities in handling their intellectual property rights portfolio.

Ezarina Binti Ya'akub

Ezarina graduated from University Institute of Technology MARA (UiTM) with Diploma in Art and Design. She has 10 years experience in Intellectual Property, more particularly in Trademark, Patent and Industrial Design administration, execution and prosecution matters. Primary responsibilities include filing Trademark, Patent and ID applications locally and internationally, administrative duties in ensuring the smooth registration and handling of Trademark, Patent and ID applications including preparation of legal documents as well as overseeing and docketing deadlines.

She has extensive experience in conducting Trademark and ID searches and in liaising with clients, agents and MyIPO officials with respect to matters associated to Trademark, Patent and ID. Within these 10 years, she has learned and acquired experience in preparing structured status reports for clients and agents.

In PlaTCOM Ventures, she is responsible for handling administrative tasks such as answering telephone calls, scheduling meetings, preparing reports and filing documents as well as responsible for managing inventory, maintaining company records and entering data, invoicing and providing customer service, reviewing supply requisitions, assigning and monitoring clerical functions.
